The founder of Argyll Aquaculture, Independent Aquaculture Consultants is Stevie Jarron. Stevie is from the fishing village of Port Seton in East Lothian, and joined his father, Peter on the fishing boat Star of Hope. He subsequently moved to a fisheries protection role with the SFPA in Peterhead.
From there Stevie went to Herriott Watt University where he completed a BSc in Sustainability and Environmental Management, which led to working with SEPA as a Specialist in Habitat Enhancement and Emerging Issues.
After leaving SEPA, Stevie moved to Seil, near Oban, where as a qualified commercial skipper he returned to the sea as a research vessel skipper with SAMS and OEL Ltd.
Since 2015, Stevie has built the Argyll Aquaculture consultancy to create and support a seaweed farming industry in Scotland. Stevie brings many years of practical seaweed cultivation experience in site selection, licensing, bespoke farm design and logistics of deploying, growing and harvest handling. He has led the industry in seaweed farm development at scale.
Stevie is a director of the Scottish Seaweed Industry Association, an organisation committed to growing and supporting the industry every step of the way, from access to funding, assistance with licensing, all the way through to harvested product.
